Three Ways to Become More Creative

Most people believe they don't have much imagination. They are wrong. Everyone has

imagination, but most of us once, when we become adults, forgets how to access it.

Creativity isn't always connected with great works of art or ideas. People at work and in

their free time routinely think of creative ways to solve problems. Maybe you have a goal to

achieve, a tricky question to answer or you just want to expand your mind! Here are three

  techniques to help you.

This technique involves taking unrelated ideas and trying to find links between them.

First, think about the problem you have to solve or the job you need to do. Then find an

image, word, idea or object, for example, a candle. Write down all the ideas/words

associated with candles: light, fire, matches, wax, night, silence, etc. Think as many as you

can. "i'he next stage is to relate the ideas to the job you have to do. So imagine you want to

buy a friend an original present; you could buy him tickets to a match or take him out for

the night. Imagine that normal limitations don't exist.

You have as much time/space/money, etc. as you want. Think about your goal and the new

possibilities. If, for example, your goal is to learn to ski (滑雪), you can now practice skiing

every day of your life (because you have the time and the money). Now adapt this to reality.

Maybe you can practice skiing every day in December, or every Monday in January.

Look at the situation from a different point of view. Good negotiators (谈判者) use this

technique in business, and so do writers. Fiction writers often imagine they are the

characters in their books. They ask questions: what does this character want? Why can't she

get it? What changes must she make to get what she wants? What does she dream about? If

your goal involves other people, put yourself in their shoes. The best fishermen think like

  fish!

  (32) According to the first technique, if you need to solve a problem,__________.

A: you should link it with candles

  Two people, Two Paths

You must be familiar with the situation: Dad's driving, Mum's telling him where to go. He's

sure that they need to turn left, but she says it's not for another two blocks. Who has the

better sense of direction? Men or women?

They both do, a new study says. But in different ways.

Men and women, Canadian researchers have found, have different methods of finding their

  way.

Men look quickly at landmarks (地标) and head offin what they think is the right

direction.Women, however, try to picture the whole route in detail and then follow the path

  in their head.

"Women tend to be more detailed," said Edward Comell, who led the study. "While men

tend to be a little bit faster and...a little bit more intuitive In fact, said

Cornell, "sense of direction" isn't one skill but two. "

The first is the"survey method". This is when you see an area from above, such as a printed

map.You can see, for example, where the hospital is, where the church is and that the

  supermarket is on its right.

The second skill is the"route method". This is when you use a series of directions. You start

from the hospital, then turn left, turn right, go uphill--and then you see the supermarket.

Men are more likely to use the survey method while women are more likely to use one route

  and follow directions.

Both work and neither is better. Some scientists insist that these different skills have a long

history, they argue it is because of the difference in traditional roles.

In ancient times, young men often went far away with the older men to fish or hunt,The trip

took hours or days and covered unfamiliar places. The only way to know where you were

was to use the survey method to remember landmarks--the mountains, the lakes and so on.

The women, on the other hand, took young girls out to find fruits and plants. These

activities were much closer to home but required learning well--used paths. So, women's

sense of space was based on learning certain routes.

When finding his way Dad tends to rely on __________.

  A: his intuitive knowledge

  B: his book knowledge

  C: mum's assistance

  D: the police's assistance

  答案:A

  (37) Women are more likely to use __________.

  A: the survey method

  B: the traditional method

  C: the route method

  D: the right method

利用题干关键词women are more likely to use定位到第七段有women are more likely to use one route and follow directions,即:女人更倾向于使用一个路线,扩照方向走。

His Own Way to Express Love

Yesterday was our three-year anniversary. We didn't do anything romantic; we just walked

hand in hand and talked about our past and the future. This was pretty much what I had

  expected.

Andy is an unromantic guy: no sweet words or roses. Smart as he is, he is a little bit shy

expressing his love. In contrast, I am an outspoken (直言不讳) girl who likes to show her

feelings directly. So needless to say, I often feel that he is insensitive. I envy other girls who

  are surrounded by sweet words.

I was in this sullen mood until I heard a beautiful sentence one day: "If one does not love

you the way you like, it does not mean that he does not love you," This simple but sensible

sentence made me think about our happy days and recall his deep concern for me.

One cold winter night, I got a high fever. He hurried to my dormitory and took me to the

hospital. He was in such a hurry that he even forgot to wear socks. After arrival, he ran

through the hospital handling all the formalities(手续 ). When I was put on a drip(点滴), he

told me interesting stories to make me happy. Being held in his warm arms and listening to

his tender (温柔的 ) voice,I had never felt so safe and comfortable. Gradually, I fell asleep.

When I woke up 15 minutes later, he was still mumbling ( 咕哝地说 ) to me. He explained

that if he had stopped talking I would have woken up. At that moment, I found love in his

  eyes.

Another time, I had a bad quarrel with my best friend. Although I knew it was my fault, I

refused to admit it. I was very angry when he insisted I apologize to her. He said that it was

difficult to admit a mistake, but this was what everyone should do. The next morning, I

apologized to my friend and asked for her forgiveness.

My unromantic boyfriend cares about my health like my father, understands me like my

mother and helps me like my elder brother.

  Who is Andy?

  A: The writer's father.

  B: The writer's uncle.

  C: The writer's elder brother.

  D: The writer's boyfriend.

  (42) When did the writer and Andy fall in love?

  A: Three years ago.

  B: Two days ago.

C: On a cold winter night.

  D: After a quarrel

  答案:A

  (43) Which statement is true of the writer?

A: She likes running after romantic guys.

B: She does not like sweet words.

C: She likes expressing her feelings directly.

D: She does not like roses.

In contrast,I am an out—spoken girl who likes to show her feeling directly,大意是相比之下,我是一个直言不讳的女孩,喜欢直露感情。

  (44) The writer tells the reader two stories to show that__________.

A: Andy is a romantic guy

B: Andy has his own way to express love

C: Andy is an insensitive guy

D: Andy is a foolish guy

  (45) The word "sullen" (Paragraph 3) could be best replaced by__________.

  A: cheerful

  B: calm

  C: good

  D: bad

I was in this sullen mood until heard a beautiful sentence one day.
