"Fried Dough Twist" is a Chinese stage comedy series which started in 2003. The brand has since staged 17 plays, mostly shown during new year holiday seasons. And now the latest production, set around the period of Beijing Olympics, is tickling the funny bones of a new round of audience.
The play "Dream of That Year" tells the story of a group of guys during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, filled with funny encounters of two brothers and their neighbours. Their father is a designer of the event’s iconic building, the "Bird’s Nest", his relationship with his sons changes as the Olympics draws near.
Lead actor Chang Yuan is known by many for playing a cheater in a 2012 CCTV Spring Festival Gala comic sketch. While another lead Song Yang won over audiences with his performance in another episode of the "Fried Dough Twist" series, "Somalia Pirate".
The new drama encapsulates fond memories of growing up of today’s youngsters.
