The National Center for the Performing Arts is four years old this month. And to celebrate, the iconic "Egg-like" structure is hosting a series of special shows, exhibitions and activities, that looks set to provide a mouth watering feast for arts lovers of all persuasions.

To bring some ancient arts to the celebrations, there will be a concert of music played on the Xu -- an old instrument popular in the royal court during the Shang and Zhou dynasties. The Xu later became a popular grassroots folk medium.

Xu maestro, Liu Kuanren, is hoping to cast a spell on audiences with some classic ancient tunes.

Meanwhile, there is to be a chamber music concert, headlined by violin virtuoso Lu Siqing, with Rachmaninov, Mendelssohn and Brahms on the program.

In an exhibition hall by the theater's underwater walkway, a display of sculptures themed on performing arts is being held, with 150 sculptures capturing movements frozen in time. The exhibits will eventually be taken out of the hall to take their places in all corners of the theater.

The special four year anniversary exhibition at the NCPA runs until the end of February.
