China is making a concerted effort to spread information on fire safety as the country marks its annual National Fire Prevention Day. But as Zhang Ni discovers, preventing fires is more than just a one day job.
在一年一度的全国消防日到来之际，中国正共同努力宣传消防安全知识。但是正如Zhang Ni发现的，防火不只是一天的工作。
Fire drills are set to be a regular occurrence today as China looks to raise awareness of fire prevention techniques. But for Beijing West Railway Station fire prevention is an everyday responsibility. The busiest transportation hub in the Chinese capital, has never had a major fire since its foundation.
由于中国希望提高防火技巧意识，消防演练被定为今天的常事。但是对于北京西火车站来说，防火是每天的职任。中国首都这个最繁忙的交通枢纽自建成以来从没发生过重大火灾。
Jin Zhe, Beijing Police of West Railway Station Section, said, "We have assigned staff from different departments for surveillance 24 hours a day. We check all our equipment regularly to weed out ageing wires. We also check trash cans and other areas for smoldering cigarettes."
北京西火车站区警官Jin Zhe表示：“我们派各个部门的工作人员进行一天24小时的巡查。我们定期检查所有设备，换掉老化电线。我们还检查垃圾箱和其它有点烟的地区。”
The National Fire Prevention Day was set for November 9th, not only because it corresponds to national emergency number: 119, but also because it is the start of the dry season when fires are most likely. The railway station is equipped with more than 17 hundred fire extinguishers and organizes fire drills every month. But what do locals know about fire prevention?
全国消防日定在11月9日，不仅因为它和我国的紧急电话号码119相同，还因为这一天是天干物燥、火灾多发季节的开始。火车站配备1700多个灭火器，每月都组织消防演练。但是当地人对防火知识了解多少呢？
Beijing Citizen, said, "We learned something in middle school, but it was very long time ago.

One third of fires in the country happen in residential areas. And most of them are caused by ignorance of fire safety techniques.
我国三分之一的火灾发生在居民区。大多都是由缺乏消防安全技巧引起的。
"National Fire Prevention Day is a worthwhile exercise in raising awareness of safety techniques. But just one day a year isn’t a long-term solution, and the event hopes to make fire prevention an important part of everyone’s daily life." CCTV Reporter reports in Beijing.
“全国消防日是一项值得做的能提高安全技术意识的工作。但是一年就一天并不是长期的解决办法，这个活动希望能让消防成为大家日常生活一个中重要部分。”央视记者Zhang Ni北京报道。
