Unit 3. Part 2. Happiness and sadness.

Dialogue 1.

W: I am so happy, Tom.

M: Why? What’s the good news?

W: I can’t believe this. I’ve passed all the exams.

M: That’s great. You’ve been worrying about this for quite some time.

W: Yeah. Thank God I made it.

M: How wonderful. Hey, I helped you a lot in your preparation for the exams. How would you thank me for that?

W: I will buy you a lunch tomorrow.

Dialogue 2.

W: What’s the rush?

M: This is really my day today. I won a 2000 yuan cash prize in an on-line survey activity. And I am fetching my money now.

W: Oh, congratulations. That’s marvelous.

M: I know. I am overjoyed to see my name on the winning list.

W: You lucky dog.

M: I guess I am. I can’t wait to tell everyone the good news.

W: What are you going to do with the money by the way?

M: Well, I haven’t had time to think about it.

Dialogue 3.

M: You look upset, Jane. What’s up?

W: Jack, I broke up this morning.

M: Oh, I am so sorry.

W: I am heart broken. How could he do this to me?

M: Cheer up Jane. You will forget him very soon.

W: I hope so. But now I am too sad to do anything.

Dialogue 4.

W: I can’t believe this. I spent 6 months working on this project. And my boss rejected it in 2 minutes.

M: Oh, he is so mean. Why would he do that?

W: He said it was too risky. But I think he hates me.

M: Come on. He doesn’t hate you. Maybe your project is indeed too risky.

W: What? You don’t trust me, either. I am so disappointed with you.

M: No, what I really mean is that maybe you can revise your plan a little and your boss will like it then.
