陷阱5  漏用逢整十数词的复数前定冠词的使用

定冠词可用于逢整十数词的复数名词前，表示世纪中的年代或人的约略年岁，注意使用这类表达时不要漏掉必须的定冠词。如：

He began to learn French in his fifties. 他五十多岁开始学习法语。

He went to Japan with his family in the sixties. 他在60年代带家人去了日本。

in 1980 在1980年（注意在1980前不能用定冠词）

in the 1980s / in the 1980’s 在19世纪80年代（注意在1980s前必须用定冠词）

陷阱6  误用“the+比较级，the+比较级”结构

“the+比较级，the+比较级”结构的意思是“越……就越……”，用于表示程度的递增或递减，注意不要漏用其中的the。如：

The sooner, the better. 越快越好。

The more a man has, the more he wants. 人越有越想要。

The sooner we operate now the safer. 越早动手术越安全。

The more I see of him, the less I like him. 我越是见他，越是不喜欢他。

陷阱7  误解“the+形容词”的用法

“the+形容词”是英语中一类很有用的表达，主要用于指代属同一类别的人或事物。如：

They have come to see the sick. 他们已来看望过病人。

The young should respect the old. 年轻人应该尊重老年人。

注意：这类结构用于指人且作主语时，谓语动词通常要用复数。如：

富人并不比有钱人更幸福。

误：The rich is not always happier than the poor.

正：The rich are not always happier than the poor.
