TONY MORONI:
There's a sad little girl who just stares at the window,
Waiting to see if her Dad will come home.
Trying to hold back her tears as she cries to her mother:A
"Oh Momma won't you tell me, where has Daddy gone?"
"I wish I could tell you, my sweet little daughter.
To tell you the truth would just break your little heart.
So I'll tell you your Dad's working late at the office,
A desk is what keeps us apart".
Meanwhile he is lying in the arms of a lady;
laughing and joking as he drinks her red wine.
And he tells her he loves her and he'll always stay with her
And she can't help falling for that same old line.
With never a thought for his sweet little daughter,
who cries for her Dad from the bottom of her heart
He says "They won't find out; I know that they're thinking
A desk is what keeps us apart".
Back home now his daughter has grown a bit older
She given up waiting for Dad to come home
And she looks at her Mom and says "Tell me what happened?
My Dad's never here, we might as well be alone".
"It's hard to face up to the facts but I'll try;
I'll tell you the truth now, though it might break your heart.
Your Daddy has found a new L-A-D-Y;
A desk ain't what keeps us apart".
