(BEIJING, August 4) -- US Olympic gymnast Chellsie Memmel injured her ankle during a training session on Saturday August 2 but still expects to compete in the Olympic Games.

Memmel continued training on Sunday, but did not include dismount, the floor routine and vault. She practised on the uneven bars and performed flexibility work on the balance beam.

USA Gymnastics declared on late Sunday night that Memmel is still expected to compete in the Olympic Games.

"USA Gymnastics is monitoring Chellsie on a daily basis," said the President of USA Gymnastics Steve Penny.

Memmel, 20, is one of the most capable all-around gymnasts on the US women's team. She was kept out of Athens 2004 due to a foot injury, but won the 2005 World Individual All-Around Championship. She sat out most of the 2006 and 2007 seasons with injuries.

Returning to form in 2008, she finished third at the US Nationals and Olympic Trials. Her new ankle injury will most likely be the most pressure-packed comeback of all her many comebacks.
