China’s central weather bureau has maintained the yellow alert for Typhoon Fung-Wong, which is expected to make landfall around Wenzhou and Taizhou in east China’s Zhejiang Province late Monday afternoon.
The region has been taking precautions for the Typhoon’s landing. A three-level emergency response to the typhoon was implemented in Yuhuan County in Taizhou, where a 10-meter-high storm surge was seen Sunday.
Thousands of fishing boats began taking shelter from the wind Saturday afternoon. About 30,000 of the province’s fishing boats have taken shelter and 150,000 people have been relocated.
China has a four-level color-coded severe weather warning system; red is highest level, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
