Despite the World Cup being over, football fans are still revelling at what many are calling, one of the most exciting tournaments in recent memory.

To relive that memorable month, China's renowned pianist Lang Lang hit the keys to show how passionate he is about both music and football. He has just held a concert in Rio de Janeiro, where the World Cup final took place. Let' hear his reflections on music and the beautiful game.

Lang Lang teamed up with Spanish master vocalist Placido Domingo for a concert in Rio de Janeiro. Domingo has been a fervent football fan for twenty years. And although Lang Lang's love for football only began in 2006, he is no less devoted and passionate about the game.

"I included a Chinese spring festival song in the concert to make Chinese elements part of the World Cup. It is very popular in China and I think its energy resonates with the spirit of the World Cup," Lang Lang said.

Lang Lang's passionate performance at the show won him a standing ovation. He thinks there are a lot of similarities between a musical concert and the World Cup.

"In some ways a concert is a lot like a football game, we have to make a lot of preparations beforehand, there is both an intermission in the middle and selecting the pieces you are going to play is like picking the starting lineup of your team," Lang Lang said.

Lang Lang was also totally surprised by the crushing defeat Brazil suffered at the hands of Germany.

"I was just speechless, nobody saw it coming. It think it was an intense emotional experience," Lang Lang said.

"That's just like music, that it excites you and surprises you. That's the beauty of both football and music. Things happen really fast in football, you have to make decisions in a split second, that's also like playing the piano, you are in constant movement, but you have be very clear about where you want to go with your music."

For Lang Lang music closely resonates with football as both involve coordination, rhythm and passion.

"When playing the piano, the fingers are constantly working together and there are endless possible combinations. But it's not just about technique but also passion. Both music and football gives you a strong drive for greatness. So it involves both skill and passion," Lang Lang said.

Though the World Cup has come to a close, the passion for the game will live on and so will the music and songs that brought it to life.
