A Thai court has ordered the government not to use force against protesters who are seeking the prime minister's resignation. It comes a day after violent clashes between riot police and demonstrators left five people dead.
The Civil Court also ruled that some orders issued by the prime minister and a special security command centre under an emergency decree were illegal, because they would violate protesters’ constitutional rights.
On Wednesday, several thousand protesters besieged the Ministry of Defense to demand interim prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra to step down. Shinawatra has used the ministry as a temporary workplace. Thai politics has been gripped by growing paralysis since Yingluck called a snap election in December.
The Election Commission said it would try to hold elections on March 2nd in five provinces where voting was disrupted. The commission will ask the Constitutional Court to rule on what to do with dozens of districts in the south where candidates were unable to register.
