巴西世界杯倒计时一周年纪念碑揭幕

Brazil has unveiled a clock in Rio de Janeiro, marking the 365 days remaining till the country hosts the 2014 World Cup. The 6 meter-high countdown clock designed by the late architect Oscar Niemeyer, was set up at the Copacabana beach on Wednesday.

Brazilian Sports Minister Also Rebelo, FIFA’s secretary-general Jerome Valcke, and Brazilian football icon Pele attended the unveiling. This comes three days before the start of the Confederation cup.

Eight teams from Brazil, Spain, Italy, Japan, Mexio, Nigeria, Tahiti and Uruguay -- will contest in the two-week tournament in a run for next year’s World Cup. Brazil have increased police deployment and patrol in the capital. Hotels, airports and traffic are also making adjustments to prepare for the tourist surge.
