Many people in China prefer to celebrate the Spring Festival by going sightseeing during the week-long holiday. So where have they been? Take a look at this year’s hot spots.

Tourist attractions across China have been jam packed with visitors, with many heading to the capital.

During the week-long festival, Beijing saw more than 8.6 million home visitors at its 21 major scenic spots. That's 7.5 percent more than last year's holidays, earning the city nearly 4 billion yuan.

The Palace Museum has welcomed 300,000 travellers over the past seven days. Many visitors have also been saying their prayers at the Yonghegong Lama Temple, wishing for good fortune for the new year.

More than 60,000 tourists went to the scenic spot of Mount Songshan in central China’s Henan Province, touring the Shaolin Temple and its magnificent landscape.

Jiuhuashan Mountain in east China’s Anhui Province has also been popular, together with Zhouzhuang, an ancient town in east China’s Jiangsu Province.

Touching cattle is a tradition in Zhouzhuang, which many think bring good fortune. Foreign visitors can't help but join in.

A foreign visitor said, "I was so glad to be here to watch the performance. I feel happy and lucky this year after touching it."

With the benefit of toll free highways during the week, many have chosen to drive to their destinations, including Huangguoshu Waterfall in Guizhou Province and the ancient city of Dali in Yunnan Province.
