Last year, nearly 70% of doctors working in urban hospitals in China experienced sleep disorders: that's according to a survey conducted by the China News Service on Thursday.

The poll involved 2800 doctors working in 12 cities; all were aged between 30 and 40 and the results showed that, in the past twelve months, over 1900 of them had difficulty sleeping.

Half of the repondents felt inadequate sleep influenced their everyday lives and, for nearly 20% of them, even their work.

Many attributed their sleep difficulties to excessive stress, which can also lead to anxiety and depression.

The survey, conducted jointly by the Chinese Medical Doctor's Association and a French drug-maker is the first of its kind.

It aims to examine the mental health of all Chinese medical workers, and highlight the problems they face.
