So, I’m a pretty short person, but some people are tall, and you know what tall people have a lot of?

Yes, they have a lot of height.
我比较矮，但是一些人很高，你知道高的人有很多什么吗？对的，他们有很多高度

And you might know tall also have another meaning if you really like coffee.
如果你喜欢咖啡的话，你也可能知道 tall还有另外一个意思

If you go to a fancy café, they won’t have small coffees, they have “tall” ones.
如果你去一个高档的咖啡厅，他们不会有小咖啡，他们有高咖啡

Which means they are a little taller, they are trying to make you feel like there’s a bit more

coffee in there.
意思就是它们稍微高一些，他们在试图让你觉得杯子里有更多的咖啡

So you might be able to tell where I’m going with this. Something that is tall has a lot of something.
你可能知道我的意图。高的物体有很多的东西

Tall people have a lot of height, tall coffees I guess have a lot of coffee. So what’s a tall order?
高的人有很多高度，高的咖啡我想有很多咖啡。一个tall order是什么呢？

If someone gives you something to do, you might be able to call it a tall order if it’s something

that’s a little scary,
如果有个人给你了一个人物，你觉得有些令人胆怯，你可以把它叫做一个tall order

it’s a requirement that you feel like you might not be able to do.
是一个你觉得你可能做不到的要求

For example, if you are trying to build a building, and someone asks you to finish it in a week,

you could say,

“Well, finishing in time was a tall order, but we managed to do it anyway.”

So that is a tall order, a task that’s a little scary to get started on. And we can also say

that stories are tall tales, a tall tale is kind of an unusual story.
这就是一个tall order，一个比较令人胆怯的任务。我们也可以把一些故事称作tall tale，一个不寻常的故事

There might be fairies,there might be monster bears that are two stories tall.
可能会有仙女，或者两层楼高的熊怪

Tall tales have an element, a part that is hard to believe, because there are a lot of crazy things

in the story.
荒诞不经的故事有个难以置信的元素，因为里面有很多疯狂的事物

That is why they are tall tales. It’s a bit of a stretch, you don’t know if the thing in it can be true.
这就是为什么它们荒诞。有些夸大，你不知道这些是不是真的

So, those are two slangs, both using the word “tall”. Now let’s talk about sentence structure.

Here’s our example.
这就是两个都用tall这个单词的俚语。现在让我们来讲句型。这是我们的例子

“That class only happens once a week.” “A only Bs once in this much time.”
那门课一个星期只有一次。A只在这段时间里B一次

So you could change what is happening, and you can change how often it happens.

But this is the easiest way to tell somebody about something that happens regularly at certain

intervals of time.

For example, “This train only runs once an hour.” The person you are talking to immediately

knows the train comes every hour, but only once.
例如这个火车每个小时只发车一次跟你说话的那个人就立刻知道这个火车每个小时来一次

And you can also say “This bird only lays eggs once a year.” Same thing, the person you are talking

to knows that this bird lays an egg once a year, but only once.
你也可以说这只鸟每年只下一次蛋。同样的，跟你说话的那个人就会知道这只鸟每年都下蛋，但是只下一次

You can also change once into twice, three times, four times, whatever you need to fit in your situation.
你也可以把一次改成两次，三次，四次，根据你的情况而定。

That is our sentence structure, now let’s talk about etymology. Today we are going to learn about multi.
这就是我们的句型，现在来讲词源。今天我们来学习关于multi这个词

Multi is interesting because it has the root multus, which in Latin means many or much.
Multi是一个有意思的词因为它有multus，拉丁语里是很多的意思

And you also have the Greek root mula, which means very or very much. So it’s a root that

comes from two different languages.
也有希腊语的词根mula，意思是非常多。这个词根来自两个不同的语言

And you can use it in many ways. In multiple ways, it means many. One of my favourites is multi-colour.
你可以通过很多方式去用它。我最喜欢的一个单词是multi-colour

If you have a piece of paper or some clothes that are multi-coloured, it has many colours.
如果你有multi-colour的一张纸或者一些衣服，它有很多颜色

Then there’s multi-media. This is something you can found on the Internet, in an art gallery, on yourTV.
也有多媒体。这是一些你可以在网上、画廊、或者电视上找到的

Multi-media means that it’s able to use many kinds of media such as video, music, written words,photos,

texts, numbers. Multi-media.
多媒体的意思是可以用很多媒体例如视频、音乐、单词、照片、文字、数字。

And then of course, there’s multiple. If you say something has multiple parts, you are saying

it doesn’t just have one piece to it.
当然，还有一个multiple。如果你说某物有很多部分，意思是它不仅仅有一块

There’s two, or very often, more. For example, cars, there are multiple parts that need to be in

a car if it is to run properly.
有两个或者更多。例如车辆，在车里有很多部件

And then your favourite word using multi for those of you like math, multiplication.

Multiplication is the one that uses the x sign.
对喜欢数学的观众来说，你们最喜欢的词，multiplication，乘法

It means you are adding something together many times. For example, five times three.
意思就是把一个数加起来很多次。例如五乘以三

You are multiplying five three times, so it’s five plus five plus five. You have three fives that

you are putting together.
就是五加五加五。你把三个五放在一起。

And if you want to be fancy and say there’s a variety of things, you can say there is a multiplicity.
如果你想用一个比较高端的方式说有很多种类的东西，你可以用multiplicity这个词

At buffet tables you often see a multiplicity of foods. Multi, a very multi-purpose word.
在自助餐桌上你一般能看到很多种类的食物。Multi是一个多功能的单词
