Hi! Welcome to class today. We have some fun slangs for you today
欢迎来到今天的课程。我们今天有些有意思的俚语

Both of them involve the word "bounce". But sometimes you don't use it literally
这两个俚语里面都有bounce这个词。但是有的时候不能按照它的书面意思去理解

Bounce can mean to leave a place. So it's kind of like you went somewhere and you are bouncing back. So you are bouncing out
Bounce也有离开一个地方的意思。就像你去了一个地方,然后弹回来了。

So if you are at a party, and if a friend asks you to leave. They are not ask you to bounce with them like this
如果你在一个聚会上,一个朋友想让你离开,他们说的bounce不是蹦,而是离开。

They are asking you to leave the party. So someone might say
他们可以跟你说

"Hey, I'm getting tired, do you want to bounce?" Something like that
我有些累了,你想走了吗?

And another slang that uses the word "bounce" is to bounce back
另外一个有bounce这个单词俚语是bounce back,受到挫折后恢复原状

After something goes wrong, you can bounce back and not be sad or down for a long time
在受到了挫折之后,你可以选择恢复原状或者沮丧很长时间

Because when you become sad, you can say you become down
当你难过的时候,你可以说你很沮丧

If you return to how you were, it's like bouncing, sad, not sad
当恢复原状的时候,就像反弹到了之前的状态

For example, if you are really hoping to get a job and you just found out you didn't get it
例如你没有得到一个自己特别想要的工作

You can either stay down and be sad, cry, hide in your bed
你可以一直沮丧,哭泣,躲在床上

or you can bounce back and keep looking for jobs
但是你也可以反弹到之前的状态,继续找工作

keep talking to your friends, keep smiling, and get your life back to normal
和朋友聊天,微笑,回到之前的原状

For my friend Mark, when his dog died, he was sad for about a week
当我的朋友马克的狗去世的时候,他沮丧了一个星期

then he bounced back and started doing his homework again and going to classes and doing everything he normally would
然后他恢复原状,又开始写作业去上课了

So that's our slang. Bounce, to leave a place. Bounce back, get back to normal
这就是我们今天的俚语。bounce是离开一个地方,bounce back是受到挫折后恢复原状

Our sentence structure for today is "Whether or not A happens, B will C"
我们今天的句型是不管A是否发生,B都会C

I know it's good to get to practice with the word "whether" because it's kind of tricky to figure out how it's used
练习whether这个词是很好的 因为它的使用方式比较巧妙

For example, "Whether or not there's homework tonight, we should meet and study for tomorrow's test"
例如 不管今天晚上是否有作业,我们都应该一起准备明天的考试

Doesn't matter if there's homework, we should still study
不管有没有作业,我们都要学习

Another example is "Whether or not I find my dog, I will never speak to Peter again"
另外一个例子是 不管我是否找到我的狗,我都不会再和彼得说话了

And our etymology for today is the Latin root "inter"
我们今天的词源是拉丁语inter

It means between, among, together
它的意思是在两者之间,一起

So it can either mean two things working together, or it can talk about something between two other things
它的含义可以是两者一起合作,或者一个在两者之间的事物

Like intermediate. An intermediate thing is something that comes between two categories
例如intermediate(中级的) 一个中级的事物是在两个类别之间的

You might see it while you are playing a game, there's easy, there's hard, and there's intermediate
你可能会在玩游戏的时候看到。有简单级别,困难级别,还有中级

You can also have non-spicy food, spicy food, and an intermediate. So something that comes in between two categories
你也可以有不辣的食物,辣的食物,和中辣。它是介于两个之间的

And of course you know the word "interact". It's when you have communication between two groups
你也应该知道interact(互动)这个词。他的意思是两个团体之间的沟通

For example, a cat and a dog can communicate, two classes at your school can communicate
例如一只猫和一只狗可以沟通,学校里的两个班也可以沟通

Or you can communicate with your favorite English teacher on Weibo
或者你也可以和你最喜欢的英语老师在微博上沟通

An "internship" is something else that comes between two things
一个internship(实习)也是介于两者之间的

It can be a job that you have for a short time. Usually an internship is between school and more school
一般实习是一个短期的工作,它是介于两个学期之间的

So for example during a summer break, or it can be between school and work
例如暑假实习,实习也可以是介于学业和工作之间的

So if you just graduated and you want to have a short job before you go and take a long-term job, then you can take an internship
如果你刚毕业,想在有一个长期工作之前有一个短期的工作,你可以去找一个实习

And if you are trying to be the person in between some group that is arguing with another group
如果你是一个介于两个相互争议的团体之间的人

you are interceding; you are fixing a problem by getting between them
你在调解他们,试图在解决一个问题

And if you intercede for someone, you just did an intercession
如果你在调解,你所做的事叫做intercession

An intercession is the noun form of intercede. Intercede, of course, is the verb
Intercession是名词,intercede是动词

And if you are stopping a message as it travels from point A to point B, you are intercepting it
如果你停止了一个从A到B的信息,你是在拦截它

You can do the same thing with balls during sports or stopping a ninja on his way to kill someone. You just intercepted him
你也可以拦截一个体育项目里的球,或者拦截一个正要去杀人的忍者

I hope you learned a new word or got some more practice with a sentence structure today
我希望你学到了一个新的单词 或者对一个句型有了更多练习
