句子的种类(按结构分)

句子按其结构可分为下列四种类型：

一、简单句(simple sentence)，由一个主语部分和一个谓语部分所组成，如：

I need a sheet of letter paper. 我需要一张信纸。

The postman brought a small packet. 邮差送来一个小包裹。

The work is only parti ally finished. 这项工作只是部分完成。

His question has set me thinking. 他的问题使我深思。

You’d better have the shoes mended. 你最好请人把鞋补一下。

I once heard the song sung in Italian. 我曾听见人用意大利语唱这支歌。

I felt a great weight taken off my mind. 我感到心里轻松了许多。

二、并列句(compound sentence)，由两个或两个以上的简单句(即分句)组成，如：

Take my advice, and let me drive you home. 听我的劝，让我开车送你回家。

We’re here anyway, and that’s lucky. 我们到底还是到了，这是幸运的。

We parted, and we haven’t met since. 我们分手了，学后再也没有见面。

Every man is a fool sometimes, and none at all time. 人会一时发傻，但不会老是发傻。

I don’t remember the make, but it was a car. 我不记得是什么牌子，但是一辆好车。

It’s heavy, but I can manage (to carry it). 它很重，不过我可以拿得动。

Do you want a bath at once, or shall I have mine first? 你想马上洗澡还是我先洗?

A minority of the children wanted a dance, but the majority chose a picnic. 少数孩子想开舞会，而多数孩子都选择野餐。

三、复合句(complex sentence)，由主句和其他从句组成，如：

Tell me how it was done. 告诉我它是怎样做的。

I asked how they were getting on. 我问他们相处得怎样。

This is how we parted. 我们就是这样分手的。

I’m worried about how we’re going to pay for the car. 我在发愁买车的钱如何付。

You’ll feel better after you take the pills. 吃完药丸后你会感到好一些。

I found his letter long after he had left. 他走了好久我才发现他的信。

I’m not about to stop when I’m so close to success. 在这样接近成功时我不打算就此罢手。

You can take any room you like. 你愿住哪间房就住哪问房。

There are some people here(who)I should like you to meet. 这儿有几个人我想让你见见。

The gift to whom I spoke is my cousin. 我和她讲话的那个姑娘是我的表妹。

四、并列复合句(compound complex sentence)，即含有复合句的并列句，如：

John wanted to go to the party, but his wife said she Was too tired. 约翰想去参加晚会，但他的妻子说她太累了。

I asked a man who has a wife and three children who did the cooking in his house and he replied that whoever came home from work first did it. 我问一个有妻子和三个孩子的人，他家谁做饭，他回答说，谁先下班回来，谁就做饭。
