41. qualification 资格,资历,技能条件

表示“做某事的资格”,其后通常接不定式;其中的qualification通常用复数。如:

I have no qualifications to judge your plan to start a business, but I know you’ll succeed! 对于你开公司的计划我没什么要说的,但我知道你会成功!

There have been questions about his qualifications to lead the company. 他领导公司的能力受到了质疑。

Does he have the right qualifications to become a Supreme Court Justice? 他具备担任最高法院大法官的资格吗?

有时也接for doing sth。如:

These are the qualifications for entering a university. 这些是大学入学的资格限制条件。

One qualification for receiving a California driver’s license is that you must live in California. 获得加利福尼亚驾驶执照的一个要求是你必须住在加利福尼亚。

42. readiness 愿意

表示“愿意做某事”,其后通常接不定式。如:

You can be sure of their readiness to help. 你可以肯定他们愿意帮忙。

He is known for his readiness to help others. 他因乐于助人而为人所知。

43. refusal 拒绝

表示“拒绝做某事”,其后通常接不定式。如:

Her refusal to help surprised us. 她拒绝帮助使我们感到很吃惊。

Refusal to pay the new tax may result in imprisonment. 拒绝缴付新税可能被判入狱。

Your mother is very grieved by your refusal to return home. 你拒不回家,你母亲十分伤心。

44. reluctance 不愿意

表示“不愿意做某事”,其后通常接不定式。如:

We noted his reluctance to testify. 我们注意到他不想作证。

Her reluctance to get involved was understandable. 她不愿介入是可以理解的。

I felt a certain reluctance to tell her the news. 我不太愿意告诉她这个消息。

名词reluctance后面有时也可接in doing sth(比较少见)。如:

She feels no reluctance in acknowledging errors. 她毫不勉强地承认错误。

45. resolution 决心,决意

表示“做某事的决心(决意)”,其后通常接不定式。如:

Make a resolution to go to the gym once a week. 下定决心,每星期去一次健身房。

My father often makes a resolution to stop smoking. 我父亲经常下决心戒烟。

46. resource 应付办法,谋略;财力,物力

表示“做某事的办法”,其后通常接不定式。如:

We have the resource to do the job. 我们有办法做那项工作。

Some families don’t have the resources to feed themselves properly. 一些家庭没有钱吃饱饭。

47. strength 力气,力量,实力

表示“做某事的力气(力量、实力)”,其后通常接不定式。如:

I haven’t the strength to carry you. 我抱不动你。

I hardly had the strength to take my clothes off. 我几乎连脱衣服的劲儿都没有了。

 

 

 

48. temptation诱惑,引诱

表示“做某事的诱惑(引诱)”,其后通常接不定式。如:

I tried to resist the temptation to laugh. 我竭力想忍住不笑。

He overcame a strong temptation to run away. 他抵制了要逃跑的强烈诱惑。

I had the constant temptation to look out of the window. 我总是禁不住想往窗外看。

49. tendency 倾向,趋势

表示“做某事的趋向(趋势)”,其后通常接不定式。如:

Business is showing a tendency to improve. 商业显示出改善的倾向。

She’s always had a tendency to be fat. 她一直有越来越胖的趋势。

Boys have a stronger tendency to fight than girls. 男孩子打架的倾向比女孩子大。

50. unwillingness  不愿意;不情愿

表示“不愿意做某事”,其后通常接不定式。如:

Their unwillingness to discuss the problem is quite obvious. 很显然,他们不愿谈论这一问题。

His unwillingness to accept the job increased her doubt of his ability. 他不愿接受这份工作更使她怀疑他的能力。

51. will 意志,毅力

表示“做某事的意志(毅力)”,其后通常接不定式。如:

A country must have the will to repel any invader. 一个国家得有决心击退任何入侵者。

Is there the political will to clean up the banking system? 政府有清理整顿银行系统的决心吗?

Even though she was in terrible pain, she never lost the will to live. 尽管十分痛苦,但她从来没有失去生存的毅力。

52. willingness 乐意,情愿

表示“乐意(情愿)做某事”,其后通常接不定式。如:

They did not show much willingness to help. 他们没表现出太多帮助的意愿。

They tried to assure him of their willingness to work. 他们尽力使他相信他们乐意工作。

His lack of experience was balanced by his willingness to learn. 他悉心好学弥补了经验不足。

53. wish 希望,愿望

表示“做某事的愿望(希望)”,其后通常接不定式。如:

He had no wish to start a fight. 他不想打架。

She expressed a wish to be alone. 她表示想一个人待着。

His wish to become a football star has come true. 他想当足球明星的愿望实现了。

54. wit 才智,智力

表示“做某事的才智(智力)”,其后通常接不定式。如:

He hadn’t the wit to say no. 他笨得连说一句拒绝的话都不会说。

Thankfully, Reid had the wit to see what was wrong with the plan. 幸好里德聪明,看出了这个计划的问题所在
