take a train to London和take a train for London

只有前者对，还是两者都对？

我仍然坚持认为，这两种表达都正确：

1. I decided to take a train to London.

2. I decided to take a train for London.

但是，这两个句子多少有些差别的。

▲句子结构不同：句1中，to London是介词短语做地点状语，修饰take；句2中，for London是介词短语做定语，修饰a train。

▲句子意思或着重点不同：句1表示“乘坐火车去某地”，说明乘火车的目的；句2表示“乘坐去某地的火车”。

▲如果强调“去某地的交通工具”时，用for，即take a train, bus, plane, boat for......；如果强调谓语动词去的方向或前往的目的地，用to，即take a train, bus, plane, boat to......。

有人认为，“我的感觉是：表示乘火车去某地，英语是用介词to，很少用for。”然后列举了一些用to的例句。也有人认为，“在英美国家的语料库BNC和COCA中，无有一例是take (takes/took/taking) a train for+地点名词的例句。英美人使用的不能说完全正确；但连英美人都不使用的至少是不符合英美人的语言习惯的。”

我认为，两位老师在没有了解问题全部的情况下，就匆忙下了结论；我们更不能因为“英美语料库”中没有查到，就说“不符合英美人的语言习惯”。实际上，“英美语料库”中有的未必符合语法，“英美语料库”中没有收录的，在现实语言中不一定没有。

现实语言中，除了take a train to London是正确表达外，交通工具之后使用for表示“去，前往”的用法，可以说比比皆是：

▲《柯林斯高阶英汉双解词典》明确指出：介词for表示“去；前往”： If you leave for a particular place or if you take a bus, train, plane, or boat for a place, you are going there.  词典的解释本身就是例句：

If you take a bus, train, plane, or boat for a place, you are going there. 

▲《现代英语用法词典》（张道真）的例句（都是选自国外英语词典）：

At half past four, they took the train for Cardiff.  (Cronin)

It was time to cartch the last ferry-boat for Oakland.  (London)

▲我见过的一些例句：

He took a plane for America three days ago.他三天前乘飞机前往美国。

Take a train for Pairs and change trains in Basel.搭往巴黎的火车然后在巴赛尔换车。

He hustled off to catch the train for New York. 　 　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　他匆匆地去赶开往纽约的火车。

We decided spontaneously to board a train for Geneva. 我们自行决定搭乘去日内瓦的火车。

Get off at the next stop and take a bus for the airport. 在下一个车站下车并乘公共汽车去机场。

Where can I get a bus for the station? 我到哪里能搭到去车站的公共汽车呢?

He was spotted by police boarding a plane for Paris. 他登上飞往巴黎的飞机时被警方认出.

They went on board a ship for New York. 他们搭船前往纽约。

He has taken a ship for Shanghai. 他已乘船去上海了。
