BEIJING, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese political advisors voiced their suggestions on launching new major national science and technology projects and accelerating technological innovation during a consultation session held Friday.
The biweekly session, organized in Beijing by the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top political advisory body, was presided over by Wang Yang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee.
At the session, Wang emphasized the need to boost the development of key technologies in order to realize technological self-reliance and self-strengthening and invoke the high-quality development of China.
Acknowledging the technological achievements made, political advisors suggested that enterprises are to play a more significant role in the process of technological innovation, and facilitate the transformation of research results into products.
Researchers are to be given larger autonomy in conducting studies, noted the advisors, who also called to alter the technological research evaluation system which focuses solely on results.
They also proposed enhancing intellectual property protection, and creating a more favorable academic environment for innovation.
