[-1:20.00]In contrast,Ms.Mbogo generally receives warm greetings from the men of Embu,
[-1:21.00]and many say they are now glad the council chose her.
[-1:22.00]Donor groups are now funding projects in Embu in earnest.
[-1:23.00]A new market is going up downtown.
[-1:24.00]A 200-bed section for new-mothers is being added to the hospital.
[-1:25.00]A dormitory-style home has been built for the dozens of homeless street
[-1:26.00]children who once wandered the city.
[-1:27.00]Ms.Mbogo is especially proud of the market and the hospital because
[-1:28.00]"they have an impact on women".
[-1:29.00]At the current market,where hundreds of people,
[-1:30.00]shaded by umbrellas,lay out fruits and vegetables,
[-1:31.00]one person who sells lemons said she liked the new mayor.
[-1:32.00]"I feel like if I have a problem,I can go to her office,"she said.
[-1:33.00]"The other mayor shouted.He acted like an emperor.
[-1:34.00]He did not want to hear my problems."
[-1:35.00]Nearby,a man said he found Ms. Mbogo a refreshing change.
[-1:36.00]"I'm tired of men,"he said,watching over his pile of onions.
[-1:37.00]"They give us so many promises,but they don't deliver the goods.
