[02:48.75]Amanda,Marty and David are SJTU students,
[02:54.24]and they're with us tonight to discuss their approaches to academic success.
[03:00.35]Amanda,you're a straight A student,
[03:04.74]but you also make time for extra-curricular activities.
[03:09.83]You're one of the best-known actresses on campus,and you play tennis,too.
[03:16.34]Tell us your secret,Amanda,how do you manage it?
[03:20.83]A:(laughing)Anyone can manage it,Tom!
[03:25.82]It's just a question of making the most of your time.
[03:30.42]Sticking to a study schedule lets me really concentrate on my homework
[03:37.03]when I need to,and make time for other things I'm interested in as well.
[03:43.82]T:So organizing your time is the whole story?
[03:48.41]A:Well,knowing how to read helps too.
[03:52.91]T:Knowing how to read?!Surely every university student knows how to read!

[04:02.86]I know a lot of students who read as if every word were essential,
[04:08.76]and that's almost never true.
[04:12.55]I save lots of time by scanning the material first,
[04:17.54]to find the parts that are most relevant.
[04:21.85]T:Great advice,Amanda!Now Marty,what about you?
[04:27.23]I hear you were one of the best students in your high school,
[04:31.93]but your university grades aren't so good.What's wrong?
[04:37.34]M:Nothing's wrong,Tom.I'm just enjoying myself.
[04:42.33]Having fun is important too!
[04:45.81]T:So when they start giving grades for  partying---
[04:51.08]M:I'll be at the top of the class!(General laughter)
[04:54.90]T:Now David-you play football for SJTU,

[05:04.35]I guess you aren't one of those underachieving athletes
[05:09.52]I've been reading about.  D:I used to be,Tom.
[05:14.20]But then a tutor showed me how I could use the time I spend exercising.
[05:20.57]to memorize biology terms,
[05:24.57]or learn Chinese vocabulary while I'm brushing my teeth.
[05:29.77]Now that I know I can study Anywhere,I perform a lot better.

[05:38.52]and a great piece of advice for other students who want to get to the top of the class.
